Herbalism and Spirituality
The Spiritual History
Native Americans focused mainly on natural curing techniques rather than relying on unnatural or manufactured healing procedures. Healing activities adopted by Native Americans illustrated their cultural development. These curing activities were considered odd in the European world, although these traditional curing methods had profound importance in Native American culture. Native Americans are always acclaimed for medicinal plant knowledge because they first observed the importance of plants or herbs in curing different diseases. However, they jumped to these conclusions when they observed that those ill animals who, when taken for grazing, consumed those plants started healing; in the same manner, they started testing numerous herbs to cure the sick among them. Those plants and herbs that proved effective were recommended for curing that specific disease; therefore, numerous specific herbs were recommended for different diseases. Native Americans' healing traditions were different, but different tribes selected herbs, roots, and curing knowledge. Almost 2000 plus tribes resided in North America at that time, and almost every tribe had slightly different healing techniques and criteria.
Native Americans contended that there is a strong connection between nature and the health of people. Native Americans believed that it was quite important to have emotional and physical well-being while maintaining harmony with nature. Whereas in this contemporary world, where technological inventions have strengthened their roots, concepts of Native American healing techniques are not given much importance because sapiens have started relying upon knowledge and the use of different technology instruments. Nowadays, people have become more logical, so they like logical treatment rather than depending on unknown or baseless ancient healing techniques despite being quite helpful and effective.
